Dear Students, For many years, I have had three guidelines for my students. I found these "rules" at Fenway High School in Boston and wish to share them with you. Follow these you will find yourself respected and successful.
WORK HARD.
BE YOURSELF.
DO THE RIGHT THING.
"Work hard" reminds us that you get out of something what you put into it. Persistence, determination and effort are more important than talent. Becoming successful in school and in life will require you to set goals and work toward them.
"Be yourself" reminds us to honor and respect the individual uniqueness and culture of all. Resist conforming to peer pressure and negative outside influences which lower your expectations and self respect.
"Do the right thing" refers to the golden rule. Treat others as you would like others to treat you. We all know right from wrong. When confronted with difficult choices or a challenging situation, stop, think and do what is right. Patience and courage are signs of maturity and they are virtues that will serve you well. Remember that your behavior is a reflection of your character.
Each of you must leave the Pawtucket School Department with a high school diploma in hand, ready for a career or college. It is our goal to work along with you, to guide you toward earning that diploma and to help you to realize your dreams.
Have a safe, productive and successful year. Work hard, be yourself and do the right thing.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cylke
Superintendent of Schools
